A sanity test is a type of legal opinion that is used
before court proceedings, issuing any claim or representation, this ensures that you
do not proceed to court if you are likely to lose, or put yourself in a liable
position.
A common example you may have heard is a contract being referred to as ‘water tight’, this would be the result of a sanity test requesting counsels opinion on the legality and bind of a contract.
